The arrival of the winter holidays is greeted on the UTEP campus with the annual Season of Lights celebration. This year's event, "UTEP in Wonderland," will include more than 200,000 twinkling, white lights draping the university's trees and buildings.
The lighting ceremony, which is free and open to the public, begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, on the steps of the University Dinner Theatre, Union Building East lawn. The Season of Lights continues through the New Year.
A tradition dating back to the 1960s, the holiday light spectacular has grown from luminarias dotting the campus streets to lights accenting the university's buildings and walkways.
Adding to the festivities, the El Paso Children's Choir and the University Jazz Singers will perform holiday favorites, followed by presentations from UTEP President Diana Natalicio and Alumni Association President Tom Meece.
Afterward, the public is invited to enjoy the UTEP Department of Theatre Arts performance of "It's a Wonderful Life" at 7 p.m. at the Wise Family Theatre, Fox Fine Arts Center, Second Floor. For more information, call 747-8600.
